Adam Brody Set to Play The Flash

Adam Brody will play The Flash in The Justice League of America movieAdam Brody, former star of The OC and the infinitely superior Gilmore Girls, will play the role of Wally West, aka The Flash, the upcoming Justice League of America movie. You may remember The Flash as the comic book character that could run fast. That’s it. Just run fast. Kind of like Deion Sanders in red and yellow tights. Not quite as lame as Aquaman, but pretty close.

The FlashPreviously, Ryan Reynolds (aka Van Wilder) had said it was his dream to play The Flash. Sorry Ryan. No soup for you. At least not in Justice League, but there’s still a shot of The Flash getting his own movie after that’s over.

Any comic fans out there who can tell me why The Flash isn’t lame? Because I’m just not seeing it. I mean running fast is cool and all, but it’s not that exciting. I seem to remember him running so fast around the world that he reversed the rotation of the earth and made time go backward, but I could be confusing that with Superman (or just making it up…).

Flash ought to be able to own almost anybody out there. He’s been known to go at near light speed (to do that, there’s this weird speed force thing, a dimension they tap into when they go that fast so that going so fast doesn’t kill them), and if someone’s going that fast, they’re nearing infinite mass. So if Flash runs into you while running as fast as he actually can, you would pretty much get destroyed.

Considerring he’s that fast, he’s also going to have fantastic reflexes. He’s going to be nearly impossible to hit, and he’d be able to get ahold of anyone before they pull any sort of tricks out of their sleeves. There’s also stuff on him being able to make whirlwinds and stuff with vibrations (that can make him transport?) but I can’t explain that from the top of my head. He can also run up buildings and across water, which makes him pretty much Jesus, but I don’t know if that’s actually in tune with the laws of physics (not that it’d matter, cause superheroes themselves are pretty much a big insult to science).

And he’s a loveable guy. That’s all I can say.

Thanks for the explanation. I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve heard anyone compare The Flash to Jesus… :)

As a big DC fan, I think the Flash is awesome for several reasons. But his super power is definitely just cool in itself. Looking back on the history of super heroes he was one of the first guys that was just plain fast, Superman is fast, but he doesn’t have to worry about running into stuff and hurting himself, he just blazes through everything. The Flash has a real cool list of old super villains that have a fun balance of cheesiness and sinister qualities about them that’s fun. Plus, in some modern versions of the Flash (Wally West for one) he has that fun sense of humor and cynicism about him not unlike Spider Man, which is a good mix for a team. So that’s why I dig him!

Luke – thanks for your explanation. To clarify, does Flash have to worry about hurting himself by running into things? because that brings a whole new wrinkle…
