Sunday Music Spotlight – Aqueduct

David Terry is the driving force behind Aqueduct, a band from Seattle
In 2004 Ben Gibbard, lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie, discovered lo-fi indie rockers Aqueduct in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since then the band has singed with Death Cab’s label, Barsuk Records, released two full albums and an EP, and toured with The Flaming Lips, The Shins, and The Apples in Stereo. Not a bad couple of years.

Aqueduct is the brain child of singer, keyboard player, and guitarist David Terry. He had been in a couple of bands, but was frustrated with how they operated. So he started recording songs in his bedroom. Then he found a group of guys to perform with and hit road. Their first release with Barsuk, the EP Pistols at Dawn, came out in October of 2004, and its song “Hardcore Days & Softcore Nights was featured on The OC. The full-length I Sold Gold followed in 2005.

In February the band released Or Give Me Death, expanding their sound to include horns, hip hop beats, and other assorted pieces of flair.

This track is a decent microcosm of Aqueduct’s music. It has Terry’s distinct vocals, a catchy guitar riff, lots of synthesizers, and a lyrics expressing some sort of forlorn resignation.

When I saw the band open for Apples in Stereo this week this song was the highlight of the set.
