Sunday Music Spotlight – Limbeck

Limbeck
Walking a line between indie rock and alt-country, Orange County’s Limbeck follows in the footsteps of bands like Wilco, Whiskeytown, and The Old 97′s. They’ve built a solid following by relentlessly touring in a van paid for by licensing their song “Stop Internet Romance” to Apple for an iMac commercial.

Overall the band’s music seems perfectly fit for summer: it’s generally upbeat, not terribly heavy, and overall just fun to listen to. They’re great to listen to in the car, where what you’re really looking for is something to drum along to on the steering wheel. There’s no pretense here. Just straight ahead good time music.

Limbeck - LimbeckLimbeck - Wake-up

A raspy-voiced mid-tempo rocker from the band’s recently released eponymous album that extols the virtues of just getting out of bed, it’s essentially a list of all the things that the narrator does instead of staying in bed. But the real magic of the song is the arrangement, with a straight ahead rock guitar complimented with a soul-esque horn section. The two combine to form a musical Voltron of cool.

Limbeck - Let Me Come HomeLimbeck - Home Is Where The Van Is

This song comes from their 2005 album Let Me Come Home. A classic road song with a great riff that makes it seem like you’re driving down an open highway. Tells the tale of life on the road from the perspective of a band that’s been on it forever. I can guarantee that it will be the opening track on a road trip mix at some point in the very near future.
