‹ Weird Cover of the Week: “Toxic” on Ukulele •

The members of Canadian indie pop/rock band Stars have done pretty well for themselves considering that they all have other gigs. Some are also members of influential indie band Broken Social Scene and one is a relatively successful actor. But despite the other activities in their lives they’ve managed to put out four albums, with material ranging from electronically based pop to more straight ahead rock n’ roll.
The band’s fourth album, In Our Bedroom After the War, officially comes out September 25th, but the band made a bit of a bold stand in July. Realizing the likelihood of a leak, they decided to release the album online more than two months early. So it’s been available on iTunes since July 10th.
Stars - Bitches In Tokyo
One of the more upbeat and chaotic tracks on In Our Bedroom After the War, “Bitches in Tokyo” allows singer/guitarist Amy Millan to show off her exquisite voice (which at times sounds like Tracyanne Campbell from Camera Obscura).
Stars - Take Me To The Riot
This track shows the other side of the band’s personality, with singer and actor Torquil Campbell channeling Morrissey.
