Venerable rockers R.E.M. have a video out for the second single from their surprisingly-decent latest album, Accelerate. The video’s not all that interesting, but the song’s actually pretty good, so check it out:

Bob Ross Cat Makes Me Laugh

Bob Ross Cat

For some reason this just struck a nerve and made me laugh. Hard. Kind of embarrassingly hard actually…

Bear with me a second here, because this movie is going to sound pretty dumb. The premise is this: A man has a passion for acting, but turns out to be terrible at it. So he decides to teach acting, landing a job at a high school. When the school decides to cut the drama program he figures the best way to save the program is to write a musical and stage it. The musical he writes is Hamlet 2, a sequel to the Bard’s tale about the Prince of Denmark. You know, the one where everyone dies at the end. Along the way Jesus, the ACLU, Elisabeth Shue, and a gay men’s choir somehow get involved. Got it?

So the premise is either genius or completely retarded. Based on the trailer, and the fact that the movie was the hit of Sundance, I’m thinking it might be the former. But check it out and decide for yourself.

Hamlet 2 opens nationwide August 29th.

Sunday Music Spotlight – She & Him

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are She & Him

“She” is a successful actress. While working on a song for the soundtrack of one of her movies “she” met “him”, a talented musician and producer. They hit it off, and during the course of conversation “she” revealed that she had written some songs. “She” sent them to “him”, and they so impressed “him” that he decided they had to record them. So over the next few months Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward recorded what would become She & Him’s first album, Volume One.

Teaser Trailer for The Spirit

Tell me if you’ve heard this before: There’s a movie coming out that’s an comic book adaptation, shot and directed in a highly-stylized way that makes it look like a comic book. It’s a hard-boiled detective story that takes place in a crumbling city. And it’s brought to us by Frank Miller. Sound familiar? No, it’s not Sin City. This time it’s The Spirit.

The film is an adaptation of the comic dating all the way back to the 40s. Originally created by Will Eisner, it’s Frank Miller’s vision that will appear on the screen. The movie will follow The Spirit, a former detective who rose from the dead to fight crime, as he battles his arch-enemy, The Octopus (played by Samuel L. Jackson, who we all know is a BMF).

The movie doesn’t hit theaters until January 19th, 2009, but the teaser trailer is out now:

New Pics of Nixon’s Meeting With Elvis

Elvis and Richard Nixon shake hands
On December 21st, 1970 one of our country’s most iconic photographs was taken. It recorded the visit of the nation’s most popular figure and its most powerful man. It’s a picture that hangs on walls all over the country. It’s the picture that shows Elvis in the Oval Office shaking hands with Richard Nixon.

For a long time that photo was all the public had to mark that historic occasion. Now the National Archives has an exhibit of 28 more photos of the meeting, plus a photo of the WWII handgun Elvis presented to Nixon as a gift. These pics are a must-view for any big Elvis fan (or I suppose any big Nixon fan).

All the pics are after the jump

First Pic of Scarlett from G.I. Joe

Rachel Nichols as Scarlett in G.I. Joe

A couple of weeks ago we got to see two pictures of Snake Eyes from the upcoming big screen edition of G.I. Joe.  Now we get to see a pic of Scarlett, the crossbow-wielding, red-headed hottie.  She’ll be played by the foxilicious Rachel Nichols, and if this pic is any indication, she’ll be the movie’s main attraction.  As always click for the full pic.

Colin Meloy Sings “We Both Go Down Together” Solo

The Decemberists’ frontman Colin Meloy recently popped into Portland’s Jackpot Records to play a few tunes.  Here’s his solo take on “We Both Go Down Together”, quite possibly the least depressing song about a Romeo and Juliet story.

Lost Season Finale Will Be Three Hours!

the cast of Lost
This May’s season finale of Lost is going to be so big they just couldn’t fit it into one hour. Or two. It’s going to be THREE HOURS. That’s as long as The Godfather! It’s set to air over two nights, with the one hour part one on May 15th, and the last two hours on May 29th. In reality that sounds like a one hour episode and a two hour season finale, but really it’s just semantics.

The producers say they decided on the extra hour to allow more time to reveal some of the show’s secrets. I’ll believe that when I see it. In any case, anytime we get more Lost it’s a good thing in my book.

E! Online has all the details.
