Josh Ritter on Letterman

I love to see one of my favorite artists take a national stage and just tear it up. That’s what Josh Ritter does on this clip from Letterman, playing “To the Dogs or Whoever” like the stage is on fire…

No strange to see someone you’ve watched play a room of thirty, playing for an audience of millions. First Glen, now Josh! Particularly weird as both these guys reached the zenith of their fame in Ireland about three years ago, and have been on the decline ever since. [Ritter, after befriending Hansard, broke Ireland before having any success stateside.] Not a huge fan of the new album, but fair play none the less.

I knew he got his break in Ireland, but I didn’t know the part about him and Glen Hansard. That’s pretty interesting. It always amazes me when an artist can’t find success in their homeland, then finds it somewhere else, then all of a sudden their homeland embraces them. Maybe it’s a case of not knowing what you have until someone else points it out.

So Gareth, y’all got any other American acts you like that we’ll be discovering in a couple of years?
