‹ Trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s Synedoche, New York •

The theme songs to James Bond movies are kind of a genre unto themselves. The seemingly endless spy series has given us Tom Jones belting out “Thunderball”, Shirley Bassey’s sultry “Diamonds are Forever” and “Goldfinger”, and Sir Paul McCartney preparing an epic GNR cover with “Live and Let Die”. So when it was announced a while back that Jack White and Alicia Keys would team up to do the theme for the upcoming Quantum of Solace, it seemed like an opportunity for the pair to produce something iconic, or at least something interesting.
The song, “Another Way to Die” was released this week, and to be honest, I’m not sure what I think. It’s definitely interesting. Really it sounds like The White Stripes take on James Bond, with Alicia Keys just along for the ride. The instrumental intro is kind of badass. The horn parts are cool. I guess overall it has a lot of cool parts, but they don’t add up to “James Bond Theme” to me. Listen below and tell me what you think.

Yeah, it sounds James Bondsy at parts but overall I’m just not feeling it. I still prefer The World Is Not Enough by Garbage as the most recent kick ass Bond song.
