Sunday Music Spotlight - How I Became the Bomb

How I Became the Bomb
Synthesizers, strong beats, and a whiff of nostalgia are key components in How I Became the Bomb’s distinctive flavor of indie pop. The band came together when a group of friends at Middle Tennessee State University asked a classically trained pianist who didn’t listen to pop music to play with them. Initially they did it for the thrill of playing and making music, but soon they realized that they were good enough to get paid.

And get paid they have. Since they migrated from Murfreesboro (where MTSU is) to Nashville the band has had success playing venues that even more-established acts find it difficult to book. Along the way they’ve built a strong following in Music City. Their first release, an EP called simply Let’s Go!, contains seven truly original songs, with themes ranging from the plight of a soldier at war to “Fat Chicks Talkin’ About Cardio”.

How I Became the Bomb - Lets Go!How I Became The Bomb - Kneel Before Zod

If you were listening to a CD and a song that sounded like the Mega Man theme came on, would you be excited? I can tell you I was very excited when I got to “Kneel Before Zod”. It’s an 8-bit homage to my Nintendo-laced childhood. On top of that the title is a reference to the original Superman movie. Score!
How I Became The Bomb - Robo

Who doesn’t love a song that talks about robots imitating humans? And moreover explores the topic from both sides. All while laying down great 80s beats and synth runs. Classic.
