Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for plagiarism, claiming that the band’s “Viva la Vida” is a rip-off of his 2004 instrumental “If I Could Fly”. Does Satriani have a case? Check this out:
The songs are certainly similar. Are they similar enough to matter? That’s for the courts to decide. I do know they’re less similar than Queen’s “Under Pressure” and Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”:
UPDATE: Coldplay says it’s all a big coincidence. And really, it probably is. Can anyone picture Chris Martin listening to Joe Satriani?
