Teaser Trailer for Star Trek (UPDATED)

Let’s get one thing out of the way real quick: I can’t stand Star Trek in any of its incarnations. The original series seems incredibly cheesy, and not in the campy, fun, over-the-top way that the 60’s Batman series was. Star Trek: The Next Generation had Whoopi Goldberg, the dude from Reading Rainbow, and lots of dudes in latex masks. Three things that don’t do it for me. Frankly I don’t know anything about any of the other TV versions of the show, because I haven’t paid any attention to them. As far as the movies go, I guess Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was ok, but the other ones I’ve seen are just total crap. I seem to remember something about them trying to save whales and talking to god.

That said, probably the only way you could get me interested in a new Star Trek movie is to get J.J. Abrams involved. He’s directing the new prequel, called simply Star Trek. So that marginally piques my interest. Though it’s not due out until Christmas of this year, the first teaser trailer is already out. Check it out:

Yup, that’s it. A few guys welding. Wow. I can’t wait to see this movie. I think I’ll go camp out now to be the first in line. Apparently the folks who put the trailer together had their phasers set to “boring”.

(UPDATED: Here’s a higher-quality version. By “higher-quality” I mean the video is clearer, not that the trailer is any more interesting. It’s in high-def now though, so you can really see the guys weld!)
