February 2009

I don’t care what the plot of the movie is; if you put Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan, and Jonah Hill in a movie, then have Judd Apatow write and direct it, I’m going to be there. That’s the exact situation for Funny People. Sandler stars as a standup comic with a terminal illness. He hires Rogan as a joke writer and prepares to die. Then a funny thing happens: he gets better. With a new outlook on life he sets his sights on the girl who got away, despite the fact that she’s married. Sounds good to me. Check out the trailer below:

Funny People comes to theaters July 31st.

The Broken West is back with a video for one of PCWEI’s top 20 songs of 2008, “Perfect Games”. The video tells the story of assassins hired to kill each other, subtitled in Swedish (no, I have no idea why). Makes for a pretty good video though. And of course the song is great, so it’s well worth checking out:

Empire has released three teaser posters for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Inglourious Basterds! And they’re gooooood. Really gooooood. They really play up the whole “hunting Nazis” angle of the movie. Check them out below (as usual, click for a bigger pic).

Did anyone in this country actually think Paul Blart: Mall Cop looked remotely funny? Well, if you did, you probably won’t like this. Seth Rogan, Anna Faris, and Ray Liotta star in Observe and Report, the story of what happens when you push a bi-polar security guard too far. Check out the (obviously NSFW) red band trailer below:

Observe and Report hits theaters April 10th.

Who needs Soft Cell when you can have Nouvelle Vague? If you’re anything like me you’re not familiar with the band’s act. Turns out they’re known for taking punk, rock, and New Wave songs and covering them with 60s bossa nova flair. Right on. Here’s their take on the classic 80s hit, “Tainted Love”:

Fox’s third, and final, promo for X-Men Origins: Wolverine is out. It’s called “Legends”, and it’s a little more action-oriented than the first two. And frankly it worries me a little. The action sequences are far less compelling to me than the character studies in the first two. I’m really hoping the story takes center stage, with action as an accent, rather than the other way around. Check it out and let me know your thoughts:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine comes to a theater near you May 1st.

A Bunch of Random Stuff

There’s a bunch of stuff I’ve run across recently that I want to comment on, but none of it is really newsworthy or interesting enough for a whole post. Here we go:

michael_bayBravo to Entertainment Weekly for summing up Micheal Bay’s Transformers debacle

U2 is playing Letterman for a whole week. Is this a good idea? Oh, maybe if that means no of Paul Schaffer for the whole week…

Speaking of U2, the title track from No Line on the Horizon leaked, and was quickly pulled from every imaginable place. So no idea how good or bad it is.

It's Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaI spent the weekend watching the first three seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and it’s ridiculously goddamn funny. About the time the gang tried to put a baby in a tanning booth I realized they were on a different level of twisted than any other show on television. Fittingly, I was in Philadelphia today, and it was very sunny.

A new Decemberists’ song, “Hazards of Love 1″, is available for streaming from their MySpace. It’s very Decemberists. So if you like that sort of thing check it out. I’m officially really excited for their new album.

Pepsi is introducing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback in April, with real sugar. I find this mildly interesting for some reason, even though I don’t completely buy into the anti-high-fructose-corn-syrup hype.

House was awesome last night, despite what TV Squad has to say. Give me House, an atheist priest, and a toe falling off and I’m happy.

There’s more to The Simpsons new opening than you probably noticed.

Madonna’s officially really, really creepy.

This one focuses on Wolvie and his brother, so it’s called “Brothers”. Clever. Seriously though, the movie still looks like it could kick ass.

Cool Skanking Video From the 60s

You too can learn how to skank from this 1960s instructional video. It not only outlines the basic steps of skanking, but it give a bit of a rundown of what goes into ska music. A classic case of “breaking down something too far takes away all of its cool”, this video is low on awesome, but high in unintentional comedy. Check out the two guys doing the “row” stroke. Yeah, that’s a good name for it…

First One-Minute Promo for X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Fox is doing a series of three one-minute promos for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This one focus on Wolvie’s youth, and it looks pretty damn cool. I’ve got two words for you: bone claws. Hells yeah! Check it out:
