I’m not normally one to tell people how to spend their money. But I’ll make an exception in this case. Bishop Allen’s latest album, Grr… came out today. Go buy it. Now. Got it?
If you’re not familiar with Bishop Allen you probably haven’t been reading this site for very long. Their last album, The Broken String was in my Top Ten Albums of 2007. Their show in DC was one of the best I saw last year (where they played many of the tracks that ended up on Grr…). And they were an early Sunday Music Spotlight. So it’s safe to say I’m a fan. So when Grr… leaked a couple of weeks ago I naturally snagged a copy of it. And I loved it. 13 expertly crafted pop songs. Destined to be one of my favorite albums of the year. So I bought myself a copy of it today. And you should buy one too.
If that’s not enough incentive for you, here are a couple of tracks from the album:

In conjunction with the release You Ain’t No Picasso has an interview with Bishop Allen’s Justin Rice, which is fitting because the name of the blog comes from a Bishop Allen song. In the interview Justin talks about the process of writing and recording the album, what it was like to be in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and how a girl’s eyes can be like the state of Oklahoma.
And finally, here’s the video for “Dimmer”, which could be subtitled “fun with paper, jello, and horses”:
