This is just weird. Former actor, current burgeoning hip hop star Joaquin Phoenix made an appearance on Letterman last night to promote his final film, Two Lovers. He showed up looking like a mountain man in a nice suit, then things got weirder. He was either a) stoned or b) faking it really well. Check out the awkwardness and hilarity that ensued as Dave tried to get him going, then just made fun of him:

interestingly, Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance on Letterman looked a lot like his acting on Walk the Line, when he (Johnny Cash) was scraping bottom
