The Hold Steady’s lead singer Craig Finn gets compared to Bruce Springsteen a lot. The band decided to give in to the comparisons and cover The Boss’ “Atlantic City” for the upcoming War Child compilation. It’s an interesting take on the song, though I have to stick with Bruce’s version from Nebraska as my favorite. The beginning of this version is bleak enough for me, but it gets a bit too cheery when the sax comes in. Still, a solid effort.
