Teaser Trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar

James Cameron knows two things: how to make movies that make shitloads of cash (Titanic, Terminator 2) and how to make kick-ass sci-fi movies (The Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens). My guess is he’s trying to pull a double play with his upcoming film, Avatar. It’s the story of a reluctant hero who leads a battle to save a civilization. Oh, and he’s a blue alien. Check out the teaser trailer:

In general I trust Cameron when it comes to science fiction. But I’m not sure I understand what’s going on here, and I’m not sure I care. The whole thing looks a little cartoony to me. Which is odd, since he’s apparently been sitting on this story for 14 years, waiting for technology to catch up to his vision. Did the technology just not quite catch up? Or was this is vision? Or will it look better in the final film? I’m not sure I care.

You can see the trailer in glorious HD at Apple.

Avatar comes to theaters December 18th.

  1. Blair’s avatar

I thought the CGI looked pretty amazing. It might still need some polish, but it’s got a few months to go yet. There were some scenes that looked damn real. Beyond that, this movie intrigues the hell out of me. From what I’ve read, the main characters interact with the aliens via cloned alien bodies; their avatars. My guess is the main dude switches sides and sides with the aliens. Either way, I’m there.
