Remember the Tom Hanks movie Castaway? The one where he gets stranded on a desert island, all alone except for his volleyball, Wilson? The new sci-fi movie Moon is kind of like that, only instead of Tom Hanks on a desert island we get Sam Rockwell on the moon. And instead of Wilson we get a HAL-like, smiley-faced robot. And, of course, it can be a little more difficult to get home from the moon than from an island. Add that all up and it seems like Moon is a no-brainer.
On top of what seems like a very interesting story we get Sam Rockwell. Rockwell manages to play interesting characters in everything he does, from a sleazy con man in Matchstick Men to off-kilter gameshow host Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Most recently he played an apathetic sexaholic in Choke, a movie that wasn’t as good as his performance. Regardless, if a movie’s got him in it, I’m likely to see it.
