Despite the shit that he's made in America, he's played serious more reserved roles that he actually pulls off really well (if you don't watch it in the dubbed form that is). Examples: New Police Story, The Shinjuku Incident. Plus Mr. Miyagi was kinda a goofy character anyways. I do think however, that the movie should be changed to The Kung Fu Kid and give credit to the original creator at the begining or end of the film. Something like "based on the story by blablablabla" The only reason i can think of that they kept the name is either licensing issues or they didn't want people saying "Hey! This is just like the Karate Kid! What a rip off!" I also think that Big Will's son is too young. I mean, Jackie Chan beating up a bunch of 12 year olds to save him? Kinda not as heroic as an old guy whopping some high school senior ass. But hey, don't blame Jackie that he has to beat children.
