Mashup Fun: Star Wars Meets A-Team

We’ve seen the MacGuyver theme recreated with clips from Star Wars, but that doesn’t seem to be the end of the genre. Talented folks are pouring over other classic TV intros and pairing them with clips from the classic Lucas series. Here’s the best example, an homage to The A-Team:

Now this is just freaking cool. A group of audio/visual mashup artists called Eclectic Method have put together a sort of career retrospective of Quentin Tarantino. It blends scenes and music from all of his films, up to but not including Inglourious Basterds, into a collage of profanity and violence. Along the way it shows some the standard features of Tarantino films: dancing, bare feet, slamming trunks, and plenty of guns. All in all it’s pretty damn cool:

Trailer Mashup: Up Meets Gran Torino

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good trailer remix or mashup, but this one qualifies. It mixes the dialogue from Clint Eastwood’s ode to elderly ass-kicking, Gran Torino, with the visuals from Pixar’s paean to late-life adventure, Up. When you get down to it, Eastwood’s Walt is pretty similar to Up’s Carl: old, bitter, and initially resentful of the young people around them. They both prove that despite their advancing age they are still capable of tremendous actions. And they both just want people to get off their lawn. Check out the mashup, though if you haven’t seen the movies you may not quite get it:

Awesome Fan-Made Trailer for Thundercats

The internet has been around for a while now. I’ve been using it for almost 15 years now, which absolutely blows my mind. Over that time I’ve come to expect things of outstanding creativity to come along once in a while. Even so, from time to time something crops up which manages to surprise me. This is one such case.

WormyTV, the pseudonym of a Thundercats fan with a lot of skill and even more patience, has managed to cobble together a trailer for a live-action Thundercats movie. I say “cobble together” because he took footage from other movies and hand painted the characters to look like Thundercats, ONE FRAME AT A TIME. Over the course of a year and a half. Amazing. Stop reading this and watch it now:

So that’s Brad Pitt from Troy, Vin Diesel from Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, Hugh Jackman from X-Men, the old knight from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and clips from Stargate, Planet of the Apes, and Aliens. And probably more that I’m missing. I can’t freaking imagine how much work went into this. Well done sir.

What do you get when you cross The Beatles with Van Halen? A surprisingly good mix of “Runnin’ With the Devil” and “Drive My Car”. It uses David Lee Roth’s isolated vocal track from “Runnin’ With the Devil”. If you haven’t heard it, go listen to it. It’s good for a laugh.

American Psycho, as a Romantic Comedy

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good re-cut trailer, but this one ranks amongst the best. It’s the decidedly un-romantic American Psycho reworked as a “boy meets girl who changes his womanizing ways” romantic comedy. Brilliant!

Dark Knight Trailer Mashed Up

From the “glorious things happen when creative people have too much time” department, here’s a mashup of the audio from the most recent trailer for The Dark Knight with video from the 1966 TV movie version of Batman (starring Mayor Adam West). This thing is brilliantly executed and points out just how silly the 60s version was.

For those of you that don’t remember the 60s, here’s a version using Tim Burton’s 1989 adaptation.
